Some would consider it risky jumping from a work life of body armour, batons, and blue lights as a 10-year police officer to being a documentary wedding photographer. Perhaps an even scarier transition is having your first client photo shoot stocked with a beyond-fashionably-late bride and camera crews for a 16-hour wedding filmed for BBC. Risk and pressure is something James Tracey is all about. Founder of James Tracey Photography, he launched the company in 2012 with a vision aimed at modern couples looking for natural, informal wedding photos. He now shoots over 50 weddings a year across the UK and internationally.
His website, a beautiful assortment of wedding photos, is the key selling piece to fiancés around the world in search for a great photographer. It runs on WordPress and is hosted by TSO on a shared server with MaxCDN. But this past July, James noticed his website had been compromised. Code had been inserted, adding links and foreign language copy on all of his web pages. They appeared over his layout affecting the look and functionality of the website, and worse, it was visible to brides and grooms-to-be attempting to view his website.
The initial impression of my site to potential customers was a huge issue as it clearly looked like it had been hacked. I had a client contact me via email to say my website was not working and my SEO company also noticed the copy and notified me. This would have had an impact on my Google rank if it wasn't rectified quickly.
James researched online, weighing his options. Sucuri was recommended by a blog post he read. Trusting his own community even more, a Facebook group for wedding photographers in the UK, he asked what people had done in the same situation.
A number of photographers all mentioned Sucuri and said the service was very good. My hosting company was going to roll back to a previous save but this would have lost a lot of recent work and they also recommended Sucuri.
As he reviewed the various packages Sucuri offered, James specifically wanted something that would clear up the problem but also help prevent it from ever happening again. Sucuri’s Antivirus and Firewall package was the perfect fit. As soon as he joined Sucuri, James found it to be a pleasant surprise to be contacted immediately about the compromise and receive prompt customer service in cleaning up his site through a FTP (file transfer protocol).
Within two hours my site was clean and safe to use. As I am technically limited, I wasn't sure how to setup the prevention and firewall and again support were superb and set everything up for me within half an hour.
Up and running smoothly again, James was able to continue selling his own wedding photo packages to potential customers without suffering from serious downtime or potential loss of business. Though satisfied with Sucuri’s pricing, James is mostly pleased in gaining peace of mind and having a team of experts behind him to immediately resolve any problems if something were to happen in the future. To date, his website is more secure than it has ever been before. Although having been compromised was an unpleasant thing to experience, for James it luckily wasn’t tragic. Within one day of finding Sucuri as his website security provider, James did not lose everything he had worked so hard to build online the past four years.
I could not be more impressed with the speed, professionalism, and courtesy of the staff I had dealings with and I will be recommending Sucuri to anyone I know who runs a website like myself.
